Week 34
Baby
Your soon to be son or daughter is about the size of a cantaloupe this week, weighing at 4 ¾ pounds and nearly 18 inches long. Her fat layers are filling out more each day, helping her to "chubby-up" for her arrival. Many of her organs, with the exception of her lungs are matured. The vernix on her skin is becoming thicker and the lanugo is starting to fade away.
Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. The information listed on this site is designed to give you a general idea of your baby’s current development.
Mommy
Get as much rest as you can since the fatigue is probably kicking back in around this time. You may also begin to notice more and more of the Braxton Hicks contractions, which is a great sign that your body is preparing for birth. Another preparation for birth, a Group B Strep test will be performed soon at one of your next visits to the doctor. Group B Strep, also known as GBS, is a type of bacteria that some pregnant women carry in their vaginal or rectal areas. This bacteria is harmless to you, but can be transmitted to your baby during childbirth and cause some complications like meningitis, bacterial blood infections, and pneumonia. If you test positive for GBS, your doctor can prevent many of these complications by administering an antibiotic to you through IV during labor.
