Week 27
Baby
This week, she weighs a little over 2 pounds and is approximately 15 inches long! The brain and lungs are continuing to grow. Although she is not breathing oxygen yet, your baby is beginning to "breathe" underwater. This week, her lungs will begin to expand and contract which will help her develop the skills and muscles she will need to breathe outside the womb after birth. Also, the retinas are beginning to form in the little eyes that opened last week. Baby will grow nearly a ½ inch this week. As she gets closer to her arrival, it is time to start really putting on the size!
Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. The information
listed on this site is designed to give you a general idea of your baby’s current development.
Mommy
You're on the home stretch now! You have reached the first week of your 3rd trimester. I wish I could tell you it's all downhill from here, but you will notice a lot more uncomfortable side effects that you were dealing with in your 2nd trimester. Such as a shortness of breath, that is caused by your uterus pushing up against your ribcage, limiting the room that your lungs have to expand when you take deep breaths. Just take it slow, try to avoid over-exerting yourself where you will become short of breath. Because these days, you won't need any help with that!
