Week 20
Baby
This week, the little one is about 5-6 inches from head to bottom, and weighs around 10 ounces. He is starting to develop the sleep pattern he will retain as a newborn which includes about 18 hours of sleep and 6 hours of awake time each day. Often, you will find that his awake time is your asleep time, which can take some getting used to! His skin is becoming much more intricate this week, with several layers forming. And his eyelashes and eyebrows are now visible!
Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. The information listed on this site is designed to give you a general idea of your baby’s current development.
Mommy
You may have noticed a brown line running from the top of your pubic hair up the middle of your belly (it usually continues to the bottom of your ribcage). This is called your Linea Nigra, and it will begin to fade after the baby is born. The Linea Nigra is caused by an increase of Melanin in your body during pregnancy. It is more common in women with darker skin pigmentation, but not all women will experience this line. You will begin feeling the baby a lot more frequently now, as he increases in size, his room to move around in there decreases. Also, you may notice when he has the hiccups, you will feel a constant repeating "jump" in your belly, which you may also confuse as a kick.
