Week 14

Baby

Week 14 UltrasoundBaby has many new tricks this week! He is now able to squint, frown, pee, and possibly even suck his thumb. He is also able to wiggle his fingers and make a fist. This week he weighs in at approximately 1.5 ounces and is approximately 3 1/2 inches long, comparable to the size of a lemon. His body is continuing to grow at a faster rate than his head, which is sitting on a more lengthened neck.

Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. The information listed on this site is designed to give you a general idea of your baby’s current development.

Mommy

Some mothers will begin to report feeling quickening this week. Quickening is the baby's movements, also compared to gas bubbles or butterflies in your tummy. Most first time mothers will not notice this for a few more weeks to come. Now that you are well into your second trimester, you should be adding an additional 300 calories into your daily diet for the remainder of the pregnancy. This is also a good time to start looking into childbirth classes if you have not already. These classes tend to fill up fast, so don't delay! Your belly may even start poking out around this time, which is often a much anticipated event for new moms.
