Pregnancy Diet
It is very important to eat as well as you can throughout your pregnancy. Some
pregnancy conditions such as pre-eclampsia
and anemia are generally more common among
mothers with a poor diet. There are many small changes
that you can make to your daily
meals that will have a large impact on your diet. For example:
-
Trade potato chips for rice cakes
- Eat baked or grilled meat instead of fried
- Make your sandwiches with whole wheat bread instead of white
- Before you sit down with a pint of ice cream, trade it for a serving of yogurt
- When you hit the vending machine, buy a bag of trail mix instead of a candy bar
- Avoid empty calories such as candy bars, donuts, etc.
- Have several small meals each day instead of 3 large meals
- Remember: during your first trimester, you only need 300 additional calories for baby.
