Hosting A Co-Ed Baby Shower
As strange as it may seem to some, Co-Ed baby showers are becoming increasingly more popular. However, many people are unsure of what type of party to give. Obviously, the men are not as interested in all of the cute and frilly things that us ladies are. So we have put together a list of ideas and tips for hosting a Co-Ed shower that is a hit for all guests.
Always keep your guests in mind when picking out themes, invitations, and games. If it seems "too girly" the men will surely be too "manly" to attend.
Guidelines for a guy friendly party:
-
Be sure to invite lots of men, in addition to the dad. On the invitations
, you may write, "couples encouraged" or something to let the guys know you want to see them too.
-
Go easy on the pinks and purples. Try to use more neutral colors like green and yellow.
-
When it is time to open gifts, both of the expecting parents should be involved. Be sure to make Dad feel like he is a part of things as well, or he may not enjoy himself.
-
Food plays a big part, especially at Co-Ed showers. Men love food, so be sure to pick a menu that will satisfy their cravings.
-
Find ways for all of your guests to interact with one another. A good way to do this is by playing games.
-
When picking prizes for the games, don't forget to get some male gifts too.
The point of the shower is still to bring gifts for the baby. However, in Co-Ed showers, there tends to be less frills, and more mingle.
Another great idea to make the guys feel welcome is to ask your guests to bring a daddy gift. Some great gifts for dad could be a "World's Greatest Dad" t-shirt or coffee mug. If you want to be a little silly, you could put together a diaper change kit, which would include a clothes pin for his nose, rubber gloves for his hands and goggles.
Games
Some of your more common baby shower games can be changed up a notch to include the guys. For example, a bottle race. Typically guests would drink milk or juice through the bottle and the first person to drink it all wins. For the guys, you may have them drink beer out of the bottle instead.
Another fun game to play with the guys is the Diaper Dash, they may need all the practice they can get!

Themes
As we discussed a little earlier, with the men involved you may have to skip some of the super frilly, "it's so cute" girlie stuff that Baby Showers are made of. So, a pink fairy princess theme is off limits. However, we have some good ideas for party themes
that will keep the frills to a minimum.
- Tropical theme with palm trees
- Sesame Street
- Jack n' Jill
- Baby Blocks
You could also try different party settings, such as a BBQ, pool party, or brunch.
Whatever theme or setting you select, if you stick with these tips and ideas you are sure to have a great party. Who knows, the guys at the party may actually enjoy themselves, though they will never admit it.
